about
Goldbluff (b. 1981) is an American contemporary artist living and working in southern California. Since his early teens he has been creating art in a number of different mediums. His work has evolved throughout the years using both common and unexpected styles as his tools for communication. Recently he has been developing a new style that is comprised of authentic currency paired with a unique dying process. In the majority of his work this technique is used to create captivating portraits of characters from his life, as well as pop culture icons. A custom stamped star note is hidden in each piece, reminiscent of when he would find tootsie pop wrappers with the sought after shooting stars on them from his childhood. Select pieces may also include words or phrases using the letters printed on the dollar bills. To some, money symbolizes wealth, power, self-worth, and success. His recent work encourages the viewer to explore and challenge these underlying thoughts.
*Star notes are used by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to replace misprinted/damaged currency before it goes into circulation. These replacement notes are printed just like normal notes, the star is where the block letter normally is (the last letter of the serial number). on legal tender notes and silver certificates, the star is where the prefix normally is (the first letter of the serial number).
